Jess received her Master's in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family from Webster University located in Myrtle Beach, SC in August 2009. During graduate school Jess completed internships with the City of Myrtle Beach's EAP program, where she assisted first responders with crisis intervention and suicide assessments, and at the Fayetteville Family Life Center, a faith-based counseling practice under the supervision of Dr. Jerry Powell, LPC-S, LMFT. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University in 2000, where she also played varsity field hockey, and in 2003 earned her Paralegal certification from George Washington University.
Jess has practiced in the mental health field since 2007, working as a Family Resource Specialist with an agency that specializes in working with therapeutic foster children. She also contracted with the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) through the Preservation of the Force and Family initiative to provide in-home therapy to military families in need; and has worked in an outpatient setting with clients as young as four years old through adulthood. She has experience with Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused THerapy (SFT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Jess is basic-trained in EMDR and continues to work towards her full EMDR Certification.
